Following test produced similar results and it wasn’t until 1980 that New Zealand managed to overcome India was a 2-0 win in their One Day International series. The turn of the century brought better fortunes for New Zealand as they overpowered India at home in the 2002-03 test. The hosts strolled to a ten wicket victory as India suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in Wellington following unsuccessful attempts in 1975, 1980 and 1998.
The latest test match series that took place between these two sides was in March 2009 and it saw India win their first series win in New Zealand since they tasted victory at the thirteenth attempt way back in 1968. The second test was a high scoring affair with Laxman and Gambhir both hitting impressive centuries in the second innings. New Zealand finally succumbed and declared to give India the draw.
