Mumbai Indians post their first victory
Mumbai Indians posted their first victory in the IPL Cricket after defeating Kolkatta Knight Riders in the match held at Eden Gardens, Kolkatta. Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack was quite convincing to restrict the Kolkatta Knight Riders to a low total on the score board.

Kolkatta Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening was really bad as both the openers McCullum (1) and Ganguly (4) were dismissed for a single digit score. Ricky Ponting scored 19 runs and Das scored a decent 29 runs. Shukla was the batsman with the highest score of 40 runs off 22 balls (4 boundaries and 2 sixers). At the end of 20 overs, the Kolkatta Knight Riders made a total of 137 runs for the fall of 8 wickets. Jayasuriya was the most economical bowler who claimed 3 wickets with one maiden over.
Chasing the target of 138 runs, the Mumbai Indians started their Innings. The openers Rahane and Jayasuriya scored 4 and 18 runs respectively. It was Robin Uthappa and Dwayne Bravo who stood till the end and led their team to the victorious path. Robin Uthappa scored 37 runs off 37 balls and Bravo made an excellent knock of 64 runs off 53 balls (8 boundaries and a sixer). Mumbai Indians achieved the target at the end of 18.4 overs and won the match by 7 wickets. Jayasuriya was declared the “Player of the Match”.
