Kings XI Punjab makes a thrilling 1 run victory

Kings XI Punjab defeated the Mumbai Indians by 1 run in the IPL match held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 21, 2008. Kings XI Punjab have secured their entry into semi-finals by winning this match.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first. The Kings XI Punjab started their Innings thru their openers – Shaun Marsh & James Hopes. Shaun Marsh played a splendid innings by scoring 81 runs off 56 balls (7 boundaries and 4 sixers). James Hopes was dismissed for a duck. Pomersbach scored an excellent 79 runs off 50 balls (10 boundaries and 3 sixers). At the end of 20 overs, Kings XI Punjab scored 189 runs for the fall of 4 wickets.

Chasing the challenging target of 190 runs, the Mumbai Indians started their Innings. Jayasuriya was dismissed for 20 runs and Tendulkar posted his maiden IPL fifty by scoring 65 runs off 46 balls (12 boundaries). Smith and Nayar made 20 and 27 runs respectively. It was really a tough contest until the last ball of the Innings. In the last ball of the 20th over, the Mumbai Indians required 2 runs to win the match. All the spectators were on their feet at this crucial juncture. Yuvraj Singh’s dive to run out the last batsmen changed the game in a whisker.

Kings XI Punjab won the match by a single run and Shaun Marsh was declared the Man of the Match.
