It’s difficult to say who will take most out of that first encounter. England batsmen Andrew Staruss and Michael Vaughan both returned to form but the middle order decided they didn’t really want to play and collapsed while New Zealand will be pleased with there middle-order but will be disappointed in most of their top batsmen.

With the ball England are probably short of a fifth top class bowler but will be pleased they had New Zealand in trouble in both innings before big knocks from a couple of the Black Caps rescued the tourists. While again the New Zealand management will take heart form the fact that although their strike force didn’t exactly pull up any trees they showed consistency.

So on to Manchester and England have made one change bowler Chris Tremlett has come in for Matthew Hoggard who broke a finger in Yorkshire’s Championship match against Durham but the starting eleven is likely to remain unchanged.

Michael Vaughan?s side have won four out of their last five at Old Trafford and will be hoping to take their chances this time around and to take a one nil lead in the series.
