Deccan Chargers, headed by V.V.S. Laxman won the toss and elected to bat first. Deccan Chargers’ top batsmen – Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds failed to score decent scores including VVS Laxman. The youngster Rohit Sharma utilized this opportunity to prove himself. He made a brilliant 66 runs off 36 balls (6 boundaries and 4 sixers). At one point of the game, all the hopes were on Shahid Afridi but he was dismissed for a mere 2 runs.

From the bowling side of the Delhi Daredevils, McGrath failed to grab any wickets. Asif, Maharoof and Bhatia claimed 2 wickets respectively. At the end of 20 overs, Deccan Chargers made a modest total of 142 runs for the fall of 8 wickets.

Chasing the target of 143 runs, Delhi Daredevils started their Innings thru their opening batsmen Gambhir and Sehwag. Gambhir was dismissed for 12 runs. Sehwag and Dhawan made a strong partnership and lead their team to victory. Sehwag played an excellent Innings by scoring 94 runs off 41 balls (10 boundaries and 6 sixers). Delhi Daredevils met the target in 13 overs with a fall of just 1 wicket. Virendra Sehwag was declared the “Man of the Match”.
