Cricket Test Match
The test match is seen as the ultimate of all cricket matches and are contested between nations as opposed to county teams. The game can last for up to 5 days. Test cricket is seen as quite boring by some people due to the patience and careful approach taken by players, as they do have 5 days to complete the game, the players tend to be cautious in shots. The days are split up as follows, there are three sessions of play all consisting of two hours with breaks for tea between every 2 hours session.
To decide who will bat and bowl first the two team captains walk out to the wicket and flick a coin, the winner then chooses whether they would prefer to bat or bowl first. The teams have two turns at batting and bowling, for example the team that bats first will then field for the second innings, then the team who batted first will bat again followed by the second team batting again, the two batting runs are then added together and this determines the winner.
Test cricket actually dates back to 1877 when England met Australia and this is what formed the world famous “ashes” series which is still the biggest thing in the sport as far as the English and Australians are concerned.
The greatest player in test history is considered to be West Indian legend Brian Lara who holds the record in an individual innings of 400 not out, beating the previous best of 380.
