Cricket Latest England V South Africa
With England wrapping up the one day series on home soil with the side beating South Africa with new boy Samit Patel becoming the first England spinner since Ashley Giles in Delhi in January 2002 to take five wickets in a One Day International which was helped by Freddie Flintoff’s brilliant 78 not out as England moved into an unassailable 3-0 lead in their One Day International series with a thumping 126-run win over South Africa at the oval.

Kevin Pieterson’s captaincy really does look to have given the English batsmen a new lease of life with the top order and Ian Bell in particular looking really aggressive all of a sudden compared to a nervous laid back attitude under previous Captain Michael Vaughan. Bell scored a fantastic 73 runs off 77 balls, putting on 101 runs in quick fashion with Matthew Prior before Flintoff came in with work to do following a South Africa fight back during the middle of England’s innings to help the home side to finish on 296-7 at the end of their over’s.
South Africa in reply never really got going and apart from Amla’s 46 their batsmen failed to get a hold of England’s bowlers and eventually succumbed to a paltry 170 all out to give England a surprising series win against the number 1 one day side in the world and to take Kevin Pieterson’s reign as captain to 4 wins on the trot which is a pretty impressive start.
