Test all-rounder Andrew Symonds has barely had time to scratch him self after being rushed back into the Australian test side following his shock selection in the thirteen man squad last week.

Cricket Australia selectors overlooked all-rounder Shane Watson in favour of Symonds who has faced his fair share of criticism after scoring just 80 runs in the domestic competition this season.

Despite facing heavy criticism by the media and a number of former test players, Symonds was given the green light yesterday and couldn’t be happier to be back among his team mates.

Skipper Ricky Ponting was very quick to jump to Symonds (and the test selectors) defense likening Symonds’ absence to that of an injured player.

He stated that Symonds was a key senior member of the Australian Test Cricket team and a vital spark with the bat, ball and particularly around the ground.

He mirrored Matthew Heyden’s attitude in that although Symond’s does not have the runs on the board so far this season, his sheer presence as an enthusiastic and athletic fielder, his dominance with the bat and his ability to get through overs mean that Australia is a much better side with him in it.

Many see the test against the Black Caps as a mere formality and this could be the reasoning behind his selection.

Even New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori was reluctant to talk up the Black Cap’s chances, making this the perfect opportunity for Symonds to play himself into form ahead of what is guaranteed to be a red hot summer of cricket.

Ladbroke Cricket Bet - The first thing I would like to say is what a 1st Test match that was between India and England in Chennai, the game itself had loads of positives for the English side especially when you consider the poor preparation both teams had in the run up to the game with the terrorist attacks on Mumbai having put this 2 Test match series on the line but I would like to say a very big well done to all the security that made sure this game went ahead without any distractions whatsoever.

The game itself started with Andrew Strauss grabbing a century in the 1st innings to give England a score over 300 and gave their bowlers something to bowl at. When India came to bat England’s new boy Mr Swann became the 1st man to grab 2 wickets in his very first over in Test Cricket to help his team to a healthy 1st innings lead.

Then Mr Strauss did it again by scoring a century in the 2nd innings which was helped by Paul Collingwood who himself got into 3 figures with them both scoring 108 runs and helped England declare on 311-9 which left India chasing 387 which was the 4th highest run chase in the history of Cricket.

India started brightly in their pursuit with Sehwag whacking every English bowler and especially Harmison all over the ground with some brilliant shots before getting trapped lbw off Swann for 83 off 68 balls. Gambhir also played well in his 66 runs but when these boys got out India still had a lot of work to do and England still looked like grabbing a precious 1-0 lead in the series enter Tendulkar.

The little magician and Yuvraj enjoyed a magical partnership and smashed Monty in particular to all four corners of the ground and although I was very disappointed I was happy to watch such a brilliant innings from Sachin (103 not out) who helped India win a test that did not look likely throughout the whole test match. His partnership with Yuvraj (85 not out) took India home and gave them a 1-0 lead in the two match series.

Cricket Bet - England’s tour of India has started just how I predicted with three one day losses on the spin and rumours of players already having enough of the tour and wanting to get home even before they have played the other four one day games as well as two test matches.

The main reason that I feel England look so disinterested with the current tour is the stale mate the players are currently getting off the ECB who have once again stated that any English player that is on a Central contract will NOT be allowed to take part in the second upcoming IPL Premier league and with England not playing any Cricket at the time of the tournament it is hard to see why the ECB take such a stance with their players and this is why I think certain players over in India do not look bothered at all.

The three one day games so far with the exception the last one which was won by home side with the Duckworth Lewis method coming into play after the umpires called an end to the game over bad light have all been straight forward and dare I say it EASY victories for India with all rounder Yuvraj Singh the chief tormentor for the home side with his two centuries in the opening two games and also taking many English wickets with his Bowling.

With four one day games still left to play I really feel England have to dig deep and play for pride because as a contest I think it is already over and they need to be getting some confidence before the test matches because that is one area that I think India will come up against a side that do actually know what they are doing.

Ricky Pointing’s sides were reduced to a two-nil series defeat by India after the tourists fell to a massive 172 run defeat in the last test. As a result England are now around just 6/4 to regain the urn with the Aussies out to nearly even money.

Meanwhile KP and co have been warming up for the tour of India in a match against the Mumbai Cricket Association. Andrew Flintoff hit an unbeaten century in the game, his first since 2005 and can now be backed at 9/2 to repeat the feat in the forthcoming one-day international series.

The current top two Cricket test nations are at the minute in the middle of a four match test series with India holding a one nil lead over Australia after hammering their Aussies by over 300 runs in the 2nd test which has left many Cricketing experts around the world saying that they think Australia’s strangle hold on the game has now gone and their new team will struggle to live up to what the old team of Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist and co achieved in the game.

Much has been said whether the new breed of Australian bowlers could replace the departing pair of McGrath and Warne and too be honest after the first two test matches in India and the amount of runs the home side has scored in the four innings so far in the two games I think they are now way the threat they once was and I have to say I now think they only have one world class bowler in Brett Lee who now seems to carry the mantle when Australia are in the field.

England may be odds-on favourites to win the Stanford super-series but the best bet might be that the competition never happens.

The $20 million match has been thrown into turmoil after a row between Digicel, sponsors of the West Indies Cricket Board, and the organisers broke out over rights.

Digicel believes its five-year deal with the WICB covers the match in Antigua, which will see a Stanford Superstars XI take on Kevin Pietersen’s side on November the first. However the organisers argue that because the ‘Superstar team’ is not ‘officially sanctioned’ by the board then the deal is not applicable for this match.

A date for the high court in London has been set to try to sort things out but with all the publicity around the game it’s a pretty safe bet that all will be sorted out in time.

So with the game likely to go ahead the question remains who to back? Well the slightly stingy odd-on 4/5 available about England is off putting but after the form they’ve showed under KP they surly have the upper hand. They are also used to playing together where the Allstars will be rather thrown into a mix they may be unfamiliar with.
